Style Over Function? Making Over Your Living Room

After the kitchen, your living room takes up most of your focus when undertaking the relevant renovations, and in many ways, it can be a difficult space to overhaul. On one hand, you want something welcoming and relaxing, somewhere you can lounge on the couch and watch television, but it also needs to be a talking point if you have guests coming by. Making over your living room can raise so many different questions, but do you know the answers?

Will You Be Hosting a Lot of People?

Are you actually going to be hosting numerous soirees? Because if you're not, then is there really any point in renovating it to the point where you have a Rothko painting on the wall as a talking point? It's unlikely. Granted, if you want people to come by now and again, do you need to make a show and tell of the living room, especially when you've got a kitchen space?

How Trendy Do You Want It To Be?

When you are working at overhauling the entire decor, do you want to be in modern and trendy, or cozy and comfortable? You can very easily keep up to date with modern trends, and paint the living room the key colors for 2018, namely violet, emerald green, or navy, but does this match the rest of your home, and will you end up changing everything next year anyway? In which case, you won't ever really be happy with your living room.

How Much Space Do You Have?

If there's only room for a couch and a television, is there much you can really do with it? Space can be made, and there are numerous hacks to build upwards, rather than outwards when it comes to furniture and storage, but when you have minimal space, you have to maximize it in a practical sense. The living room is somewhere that needs to be cozy and comfortable, in which case, a slow combustion fireplace or a hearth could be one of the key items to add. Sure, by all means, play with your space, but if there's not much, to begin with, then you've either got too many items in the living room or it is time for a drastic undertaking of Feng Shui.

Why Are You Renovating It?

If you are renovating it to keep up with the times, this means that you've got to make the rest of the home follow suit in an aesthetic sense. When you are making over your living room, and ignoring the rest of the house, there will be a great difference in style, which makes for a very muddled household. It depends why you are renovating it, if it's old and decrepit, it can do with bringing into the 21st century, but you still need to think about making the living room a place that you want to go to, not just somewhere that's stylish for the sake of it.

Making of the living room doesn't have to be difficult, because most of us only have one, and so the function is relatively simple, to relax!
