Q: Your wonderful brand has been up to so much since we featured you last. How has Lulu Martins developed over the past year? And what have been some of your favourite accomplishments so far?
A: We are now having a really big growth. Volumes boosted a lot after this campaign. We were producing 400 pieces per season and now we have had to produce over 5 times the past production in just one season. And that for us was unimaginable before. New opportunities are opening for us thanks to our clients that have always supported us. Worldwide sales was one of the brand's major accomplishments during the present year. It was a task we were working on since long ago.
Q: We're in love with your new winter campaign, Life on Mars. Please tell us about the process of planning and shooting the campaign?
A: We started planning the ¨Life on Mars¨ campaign back during mid-2016 and shot the pictures in June 2017 in Iceland! A fantastic country. It is certainly one of my greatest goals, regarding my previous collections. The campaign production was harsh because I underestimated Iceland´s climate, though it was done during the summer season. So we just went after it assuming the risks. The actual shooting time was short, about two hours, but it took us much more time reaching the location due to its distance. But we made it.
Q: What are your biggest inspirations behind the new campaign and how have these influenced your work?
A: This campaign bears a mix of my hopes and dreams since I was a child. I remember, I wanted to become an astronaut. I was obsessed with galactic visitors and stars. It was a common thing among our dinner table at home. Our dad has always fuelled our imagination with his UFO stories from when he was young, but we never actually got in touch with any of these things till we grew up. I also remember when one day astronaut Edgar Mitchel (Apollo 14) came to our school in Argentina and spoke to all of us about his mission. I recall, my dad told me to ask him if he had seen any UFO activity out there, and he obviously answered that he didn't.
As years passed by, with my sister Valeria, we saw many strange things in the sky which made us believe that we are not alone in this huge expanding universe. So this collection just fell into place with all the movies I've always watched like E.T., Close Encounters, Signs, Interstellar, and Solaris among others.
Q: Lastly, what do you hope the future holds for Lulu Martins? Are you working on any exciting, upcoming projects that you'd love to share with us?
A: Well, we are now focusing on expanding overseas shipments and hope in the near future to be able to operate our own shop somewhere around the world. I am currently working on our future four campaigns and planning all the trips associated with them. It is exhausting but worth it till the last drop.
